NFL and Youth Girl Squad put to the test

Over 100 young footballers from NFL’s Under 14 and Youth Girls Representative squads pushed themselves to the limit, participating in AFL Draft Combine fitness testing.

This group of talented football players went through a challenging series of fitness testing based on what AFL draftees actually go through before draft night.

Overseen by DFS’s strength and conditioning team lead by DFS guru Dave Veli, they completed endurance, agility and power testing at St Monica’s College, in Epping.

The draining 4-hour session included the 20-metre sprint, agility test and the infamous beep test.

All the tests that the players performed are tests which are included in the AFL draft combine day – performed each year by draft hopefuls at Etihad Stadium.

“The players definitely started to feel it later in the day,” DFS Coaching Director Adrian Talarico said.

“But it’s important for these players to know what their fitness levels are, so they know where they need to improve.”

As the Northern Football League’s official development partner, DFS regularly conduct junior football development programs designed for many abilities and ages.

We look forward to seeing how all participants improve their footy throughout the 2014 season.
