On February 24th Dynamic Footy Skills visited Ivanhoe Grammar to help share the footy gospel with a group of Japanese exchange students.
As a part of a wider cultural exchange program with Ivanhoe Grammar, about 40 students from the Shoyokan Junior High School got their first sight of an Aussie Rules footy.
Joined by their new friends from Ivanhoe, students from 13 to 14 years old learnt the basics of our native game, coming to grips with a drop punt and handballing.
With plenty of laughter and fun throughout the session it was fun day for all, including the coaches.
DFS head coach Brett Potter said it was a great success.
“It was a different challenge for the DFS coaches with the majority of the Japanese students speaking little English and never handled a AFL football before.”
“But it was a challenge they were happy to accept and they came through with flying colours.”
The students also participated in other activities to interact with each other and to give them a taste of the Australian way of life.
